Sand casting is slow in comparison with die casting so it may have been a supply issue. I don't think there's a person on the planet that prefers the look of the two piece so there must have been a demand that required a faster process. Sand cast was probably used to see if they were going to sell before going into the making of the dies.

No all early production had that print on them "MADE IN USA" 40's to early 1951 IIRC

May have been to late 49 gray matter failing me at the moment.

Gonna be interesting to see what they go for, Thats the exact same horn as my 811's I have stashed, they sound very good, best part is I gave $10.00 for mine about 25 years ago when they were pulled from a theater!

And there is now a two piece pair of 511A's. Mind you these appear to have been drilled for three bolt hole drivers too.

I've never seen 511A that were not 2 piece?

Altec drivers were 3 bolt originally, same pattern as JBL uses

Here is a field coil unit but early permanent mags were 3 bolt also.

I think the 2 piece horns were easier with the 2 bolt.
Your neighbors called. They like your music.

Yes but if you look carefully you can see that the throat is still 1" so if someone put a 1.4" driver on that horn it is going into a 1" throat. Not Good. They are nice for small format drivers though.
